It's been a week since the 7.0 earthquake hit the people of Haiti. I've watched some news coverage in the last couple days and the images & stories are just heart wrenching! It may even leave many saying, "Why would God allow this to happen?" "Doesn't God care?"
I'm sure if it happened here to my family & our eyes saw the horror of death visible on the streets and all around us, even my faith would be tried. I can't image what those mothers, fathers, children are going through, but it is with certainty that God DOES care & LOVES the people of Haiti.
Haiti is a nation filled with Voodoo & witchcraft. I was there once as a 10 year old girl, & I remember seeing all the carved faces & strange hanging objects that the local merchants were selling in the streets. Objects that reflect worship towards false gods & evil spirits.
I watched a news clip of a reporter as he said that he could hear a crowd of people behind him chanting as they were gathering in the streets. This made me think right away, "Do they know Christ? If only they knew Christ!"
In my eyes as I look at the sorrow that has swept over Haiti, I see a loving God who is trying to save a people from their false traditions & witchcraft. The people of Haiti need the Lord! I know of missionaries who are there now trying to seize this opportunity to reach people who maybe now are open to the gospel.
It saddens me when God gets the blame for bad things happening in this world, when really we should look at ourselves. God hates sin & He will judge sin. I believe the hand of blessing as been on the nation of America because it was founded on the word of God, but for how much longer? Our nation is quickly turning their backs on God & making themselves gods...meaning that whatever we think is ok is ok. Often done behind the argument of people's rights.
One day, and maybe very soon, this earthquake will pale in comparison to the wrath of God that will be pored upon this earth, as told in Revelation. Not because God doesn't love us, NO! His spirit is trying to work NOW in your heart & mine! He's trying to redeem us back to Himself, that's why He sent his son. John 3:16, "For God so loved the world..."
Is He speaking to you about the state of your soul? He's trying....are you listening? Do you ever question in your heart, "Maybe the Bible is true?"..."Maybe there is a Hell?"...."Maybe God is real?"...."Maybe I will have to answer for my sins?"..."Maybe there's a reason for this guilt I'm feeling?"...listen to those pricks! God is trying to work in your life! Don't dismiss the conviction of your conscience!
When Saul (who later became known as the great apostle Paul) was on the road to Damascus, he had been persecuting & putting to death many Christians Acts 9:1, "He yet breathed out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord." God met Saul there, & we read in Acts 9:5, "And he said , Who art thou , Lord? And the Lord said , I am Jesus whom thou persecutest : it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks"
Talk about melting the heart of stone! The very one who he was persecuting people of speaks directly to him, and the first thing Jesus confronts Saul about is his sin!! The Saul who was well learned, who had much education, who thought what he was doing was good, is confronted by the God of Heaven about his sinful lost soul!
'A humbling conviction of sin is the first step towards a saving conversion from sin.'~Matthew Henry
So my prayers today are for the people of Haiti. That they will see their sin (just as we all need to) & that they will see the loving Savior who died on the cross to pay for their sin & save their souls! That hearts will be softened & Christians will rush in with the eternal aid of Christ! Yes, let's help them & bring them food & water....but most importantly let's pray that they will be reached with the "Living Water"....the water that Christ speaks of in John 4 that quenches all thirst!
People are searching these days for something to make them feel fulfilled. Often finding that drinking, drugs, sex outside of marriage, love of money, whatever they've chosen only brings temporal satisfaction, but what Christ gives is NOT temporal, my friend, it's eternal!
Here Am I. I will go. I will reach the lost untold.
I will give the Lord control, I will tell them of the Crimson flow.
For my Savior died on that old rugged cross,
He thought of me when He counted the cost,
How can I say that 'I love Him' if I don't reply....Here Am I!!! I will Go!!!!
I will reach the lost untold! I will give the Lord control.
I will tell them of the crimson flow!"
lyrics of the song,'Here Am I'
Won't you join me in prayer for the people of Haiti?

Love it!! Being in the US where you are "spoiled", it is hard to realize that outside the US walls, there are people hurting and who do not have the Bible as easily we do!!
Beautiful words, Heidi :)
Hey girl,
Thank you for sharing your heart. I am with you, in prayer for Hati. Especially after this morning. Thank you for telling Salvation like it is. And that All things happen because God loves us and his ultimate purpose is to bring us back to him :)

These people do have faith, they have faith in God. Just because they dont have the same religion that you do doesnt mean they are going to hell. You better read your bible because I am pretty sure that it doesnt say you have to go to a certain church to get to heaven.
Dear Anonymous,
Thank you for your comment. You are very right about not having to be in a certain religion or even a certain church to get to Heaven. I'm an independant Baptist by conviction & if my church stopped preaching the Bible tomorrow I would find a new church. The Bible is very clear that the only way to Heaven is by putting our faith and trust in what Christ did on Calvary & asking Him to save us. I've posted many times about how we can truely know Christ, but I may not have completely explained that in this post. It is definately not my religion or my church that is taking me to Heaven...it is the Lord Jesus Christ & that is 'Who' I'm praying the people of Haiti will come to know. Thank you again for your comment;).
*note* I also didn't mean to 'clump' all Haitians as nonbelievers of Christ. I'm sure there are many born again Christians in Haiti, I'm just posting their need for Christ based on religious statistics. Thank you for praying for Haiti!=)
